What is an Afrikaner?

One of the questions that came up last week was, “OK, but how are you going to define it? What is an Afrikaner?”
Many years ago, Eugene Terreblanche, leader of the AWB (Afrikaner resistance movement) was asked that same question by a snotty reporter. He said to her, “Well if you have to ask that question; you are not one”.
My libtarded cousin said to me that she is of the opinion that there are no more pure races in the world and that Afrikaners are also mixed race. I said yes, probably. France, Spain, Italy, Greece…all mixed by now.
The Moors conquered their lands and ruled Iberia for 800 years…and the Moors were BLACK. The word “Moor” comes from ancient Greek “MORO” which means “Very Black”.
Professor Heese wrote a book in the 1980’s, “Mense sonder Grense”…”People without borders” where he went to the archives in Cape Town and researched all the Dutch surnames who married coloureds. There is an estimation that Afrikaners are about 6% coloured. Last time I read that the recent genetic studies in France showed that 10-20% of genetic markers in the French population could be traced to more recent non-European sources such as North Africa, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. So, genetically, Afrikaners are more European than the French.
Nevertheless, I said to my cousin that I don’t mind being classified as coloured. She must just show me where to go so I can stand in line for my Affirmative Action and BEE benefits.

In fact, some people struggle with this definition of an Afrikaner. Of course there are definitions everywhere, Oxford Dictionary, Encyclopedia Britanica, Wikipedia...

In the old days, in fact up until the 2000’s the Afrikaans Language and Cultural Association (ATKV) defined an Afrikaner as someone who is Christian, Afrikaans-speaking, identify with the Afrikaans culture and from European descent. Membership allowed you cheaper rates at their resorts such as Goudini-Spa and Hartenbos.
Obviously the Afrikaans-speaking Muslims in the Cape complained that this excluded them from membership and subsequent cheaper rates. So the ATKV buckled, changed the definition to Afrikaans-speaking only (dropped the Christian part) and the result was that Goudini-Spa became, for all intents and purposes, a Muslim resort. White Afrikaners don’t want to go there anymore.

Now I am not so sure if coloureds are Afrikaners. They do NOT speak Afrikaans and certainly do not listen to Afrikaans music, read Afrikaans poems or identify with the Afrikaner culture.
First of all, when they speak their Creole dialect of Afrikaans, they mix it 50/50 with English. The little bit of Afrikaans that remains in their dialect is grammatically wrong. I cringe every time I hear them speak. Plus they use phrases and statements that make no sense to normal Afrikaans speakers.
“Djy maak jou laat!”
“Djy moet vol raak, my broe”
“Ons gooi ‘n lange”
I mean… Is that rubbish Afrikaans?
Not where I come from. I did not learn that type of Afrikaans in school.
Coloured Afrikaans is at the most a creole admixture of an Afrikaans dialect that only they can understand.
The people to ask for a definition of an Afrikaner is actually the ANC. They seem to know exactly what an Afrikaner is, because they always know exactly which schools, universities and institutions they need to target for “integration” and which Afrikaans place-names to change. Afrikaans surname? Forget about ever studying medicine in South Africa.
South Africa has more than 2000 councils, chambers, forums, societies, institutes, associations, federations…and what have you. Hundreds of them are openly racist and unashamedly, exclusively black, such as the Black Management Forum, Black Lawyers Association, Black Business Council, Black Taxi Association…
However, Afrikaners are not allowed to have their own institutions, except in name… Take the Afrikaans Commercial Institute (AHI)for instance.
They have had black and coloured leaders, incidentally ALL ANC members, for the last 25 years…Mathews Phosa, Franklin Sonn and Christo van der Rheede.
But hey, discrimination against Afrikaners is just a myth.
